AnyFont 0.6.0 is out!

I am pleased to announce the latest release of AnyFont, my WordPress plugin which I have been working on quite a bit recently.  This release has some really awesome new features added to it, namely the inclusion of support for PHP4 and the GD image module.  But if you’re a fan of the ImageMagick support which was default in previous versions of AnyFont, don’t worry, thats still there! The plugin will now automatically detect which version of PHP you using and if you have the GD or ImageMagick plugin installed, then load the required libraries which best suit your servers configuration.  (with PHP5 and ImageMagick been the preferred modules of course.)

If the last paragraph didnt really mean all that much to you, dont stress, what it all boils down to is that the plugin is much more likely to work for if it didnt work previously as this new version should now work with almost all of the wordpress hosts out there.

The other new feature which I think is really worth a mention is the new options which are available on the settings page which allow you to automatically replace your post titles, page titles or widget titles with one of the custom fonts you have uploaded.   No editing of code is required!  Just a simple click and everything is taken care of for you!

If you like the plugin please click here to rate it on the WordPress site, or if you have any problems with the plugin or need assistance of any kind, please feel free to twitter me. And on that note, I think its about time I update this site with some relevant contact info and maybe a project page for AnyFont… and then possibly even blog about something other than AnyFont! ;)

  1. I got the updated anyfont plugin, but am getting an error when it’s activated. This code (that’s below) shows at the top of the website and at the top of the dashboard if I activate. If you goto my site you won’t see it as I’ve deactivated it.

  2. Warning: dl() [function.dl]: Unable to load dynamic library ‘/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-zts-20060613/imagick.so’ – /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-zts-20060613/imagick.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in /home1/hoonedes/public_html/cockpunches/wp-content/plugins/anyfont/anyfont.php on line 55

  3. Hey Chad,

Thanks for trying out my plugin. That warning message is not a serious problem, it just means you don’t have ImageMagick installed and the plugin will use GD instead. Although I can imagine that warning message could be quite annoying, so I have uploaded an update for the plugin (0.6.2) which removes the message. Let me know how it works out for you.

    Enjoy!

  4. So do I need to install eith GD or ImageMagick? Are those other WP plugins?
I’ll get the new version and see what happens.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    Chad

  5. I’m still getting the code error on the website at the top. Can you expand on the instructions, what is GD and it looks like ImageMagick is a graphic program, why would I need ImageMagick for Anyfont to work right?

    • GD and ImageMagick are the image tools that AnyFont uses to generate the images images from your truetype fonts, I have made some more minor changes now which will definitely fix the problem (unless your server doesn’t have both GD and ImageMagick). I am just running some final tests now so the update will go live in a couple of minutes…

  6. GD & ImageMagick are PHP modules, not WP plugins. Every hosting company around the world should have at least one of them installed already. But you don’t really have to worry about that as AnyFont is designed to automatically detect which one is available to use. :)

  7. I’m loving the plugin! I haven’t put it on my personal blog yet, but it’s going into two other projects I’m working on. I feel I owe you a beer already. If you’re accepting feature requests for the next version, it would be very cool if generating font images for the menu bar links would be extremely cool. Heck, I’d even get you a six pack for that! :)

  8. Thanks hey! Its really awesome to hear that you enjoying the plugin!
I have been thinking about generating images for the menu automatically for a while, I just need to find the right way to implement it without hacking wordpress to pieces! There must be a way to do it though, so don’t worry, menu images are definitely on the todo list for the next major version (v0.7) :)

    … we are still waiting…

Would you happen to know why I am getting this error?

Warning: Cannot use a scalar value as an array in /home/*******/plugins/anyfont/anyfont.php on line 315

Warning: Cannot use a scalar value as an array in /home/*******/plugins/anyfont/anyfont.php on line 316

Any help will be appreciated. I looked at the code at those lines and didn’t find anything off.

  11. @sevnrock, I normally get that error when using a custom widget where the title is a link to another page or site. At the moment the only solution is to avoid widgets that make the title a link. I am working on a better solution though, and hope to have it fixed in the near future.

@anastaciah, patience my dear.. I will be posting something interesting really soon.. so keep an eye out! :)

  12. Hey Ryan? Didn’t I read that your plugin is supposed to be able to handle shadows somehow? My install of it doesn’t seem to find that option, even though I’m assured imagemagick and gd are both available from my host. Any ideas?

Also, I really appreciate the simple style bindings you added, makes this so much easier than any of the other plugins that are competing with yours.
