Before getting into the new features of this release, I just want to say thanks to Rik Ward, who made a significant contribution to AnyFont recently in the form of an awesome new feature which I have included in the 0.7 release. Keep reading to find out more about the latest features of AnyFont.
The first feature I have to mention is the contribution from Rik Ward, which is the ability to give your styles a width limit, which really comes in handy when your blog has limited space, especially in the sidebars! Using this feature you can easily set a limit to make the text roll over to the next line. Although I must stress that this feature is only available when creating a new style, unfortunately when editing a style from the 0.6 release this option will not be available. This is something which I hope to fix in the near future though so stay tuned!
The other significant feature that I feel is really worth mentioning, is the support for OpenType fonts. Thats right, you can now upload your favourite OpenType fonts in the Font Manager and use them with AnyFont.
Other than that there have been quite a few optimisations in the code which should make AnyFont run even faster than before.
I would also just like to thank the community for all the really awesome support and feedback which I have received. It really makes developing the plugin a whole lot more satisfying and worthwhile knowing that its helping someone out there.
Enjoy the new release!

Looks like I’ve found my new favourite plugin…
Finally got this working!! I had no joy with version 0.6.0 but this worked straight after the update.
And its worth it – it really adds something, thankyou!!
Hi Ryan,
I’m using 0.7.3 and encountering a conflict with the “Twitter for Wordpress” Widget when using anyfont on widget titles.
Error below, have replaced the full path with ‘/path/’ for privacy.
Warning: Cannot use a scalar value as an array in /path/wp-content/plugins/anyfont/anyfont.php on line 372

I’m a complete novice so have no idea how to approach this! Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!
Derek
Hi Derek,
Unfortunately the widget title replacements do not work if the widget title is a link. I don’t have a solution for this at the moment, but know that I am working on the problem.
Terrific plugin! Is there the possibility of adding support for angling text, like at a 45 degree angle? How about custom background images?
No matter though, I use anyfont on all my websites now. Great job!
Hi Cliff,
Thanks, glad you like it! Those are some nice ideas, especially the 45 degree text. I’ll look at the possibility of adding them into a future release. Just need to find the time to actually do it!
Hi Ryan,
Awesome plugin, love it. I’m having one problem, though. I’m using the Thematic theme, and I find that the page menu at the top is not working right, even though I have AnyFont set to only replace post titles, not page titles.
The blog has four pages defined for the menu (Home and three additional pages). On the blog’s front (index) page, all four menu items display in their appropriate native (non-substituted) font, and AnyFont appropriately replaces each of the post titles. This is the way it should work.
But if you then click on an individual post, the page menu at the top of the post page changes. AnyFont is somehow replacing the menu headings for the three additional pages — but the Home page menu item remains in its proper native font.
You can see it at if that helps. Just click on one of the posts to see the menu change. Any thoughts on why it might be doing that?
Sorry, the link didn’t come out. The blog is at http://orangeriverstudio.com/monksbrew.
I had a look at your site and saw the problem you having, but until I find a better way to differentiate between titles of pages, posts and menu items (all of which use the same WordPress function “the_title()”), the only way to fix this is to use an override variable available in Any Font called $dont_replace_title.
The way it works is like this, in your theme files, find the bit of code which makes up the menu on your site(most likely in header.php somewhere), then right before the menu code put “$dont_replace_title = true;”. Then after the menu code you can put “$dont_replace_title = false;”. The variable basically prevents AnyFont from replacing any titles while it returns true.
Hope that helps!
Thanks for the suggestion…it sounds logical, but I’ve tried adding that code in a thousand different places in the header code, and it doesn’t seem to have any effect at all. In fact, I tried placing that code in other areas as well and I couldn’t get AnyFont to stop replacing titles anywhere…any thoughts?
First off, love the plugin
thank you so much.
However, the plugin just threw an error when validating XHTML 1.0 Strict.
It was an easy fix,
I just had to add alt=”something” in the widget title images section ~line 367 in your anyfont/anyfont.php file.
Hope that helps, and thanks again
Here is the line I changed. I’m not a php’er so you’ll notice it’s a static hack.
$params[$key]['after_title'] = “.png\” alt=\”click for more info\” />”.$params[$key]['after_title'];
Thanks for the heads up, I will make sure this fix is included in version 0.8.1.
Enjoy the plugin!
First off, I’m a huge fan of the plugin for several months – I’m using it in several sites. I also really love the width limiting feature, but I’m experiencing a bug with that.
When using the gd module the plugin is not quite calculating the total image height correctly on multi-line images – it slices off progressively more of the bottom of the image when additional lines of text are displayed.
When I use the image magic module the line heights are displayed correctly (and the images look a little sharper) but all special characters like apostrophes and commas are displayed as … codes instead of the graphical character.
The site (with the gd module activated) is at http://howfabisthat.com
Any thoughts on either of these issues? I only need to solve one of them to have a very happy client.
Thanks,
- Jon
The code I was referring to seeing when using the image magic module is #-&-8-2-3-0-; and the like – but without the dashes. I had to put those in so it displays in the comments.
Hi Jon,
Great to hear that you still enjoying the plugin, I have some great news for you! Both the bugs you mentioned have been fixed in version 0.8.0 which I have already uploaded to wordpress.org and will be available just as soon as their update system realises the plugin has been updated(it seems to be lagging a bit tonight).
Enjoy!
I’m using AnyFont 0.8.1. After upgrading WordPress to version 2.8.4, the plugin isn’t working any longer as it should. All text is “shifted” to the top. Even texts in the settings (“Manage Fonts” or “Manage styles”) i.e. the preview texts, are shifted to the top.
Hey Ryan,
Great job with this new plugin, loving it!!!
I’ve uploaded Georgia font, created a 22-font-size style and have selected this style all across pages, titles and so forth in the Settings page. I’ve saved these settings but when I refresh my web page, default font doesn’t change
I’ve tried the same process with Verdana but still to no avail. How do I make that work??
Thanks,
Alex.
Hi Alex,
Are you using Firefox on a Mac by any chance? if so, there appears to be a problem at the moment where the images will not show up on your site. Although someone else who also had this problem recently, told me today that it worked perfectly after they had removed Firefox completely and did a manual reinstall.
Unfortunately I don’t have the privilege of owning a mac myself so unless some kind soul is willing to sponsor one for me to test this stuff,
(I can dream cant I?) I cant really assist much when issues like this pop up.
I hope you manage to sort it out!
Enjoy!
I’m using wp 2.8.4 + anyfont 0.8.3, and it dosn’t work. At all. Images just don’t display anymore.
Hi.
I have a problem with the plugin Any font: When I insert a font, the Character Map appears with a black background. That is, when the titles appear on the blog are a black background even though I put a white background.
I’m very excited about AnyFont, but I’m having a problem. I seem to be able to load fonts, but the style manager is giving me grief. I’m running WordPress 2.9.2, and AnyFont 0.9.1.
When I try to create a new style (I haven’t been able to create one yet), the only field I see is “Name”–no other options. If I hit Enter after typing in a name, a totally blank page loads with the address ending in “…new-style=true&update_style=[entered style name]” It looks like it’s trying to work, but no good. Not sure if it matters, but I tried IE8 and Firefox 3.5.8–same results on both.
A possibly related observation: When uploading fonts, I don’t get a preview, and the red “x” for deleting a font is barely visible (overlapped by the next row containing the next font). If there’s anything else on the line with the red “x” or below it, it’s obscured by subsequent fonts.
Any ideas? I can send screenshots. Thanks.
